A type of sexual relationship consisting of lightly sadomasochistic scenarios in which a submissive partner is physically restrained and then disciplined, chastised, or punished physically or psychologically by a dominant partner . Discipline is almost always symbolic and much lighter than in sadomasochism; characteristically it contains little physical pain or discomfort but relies heavily on verbal abuse , threats, and humiliation , and on light punishment and torture (spanking, whipping) to enforce obedience, servitude or enslavement. Master-slave role playing scenarios are negotiated beforehand by the partners; sexual etiquette requires that the dominant not use the situation to fulfill exclusively his/her own fantasies, particularly ones that the bottom doesn't find arousing.
